The PS5 was released on November 20th, 2020. Over a year later, it is still a hot commodity that you cannot find on the store shelves. For the lucky few who have managed to snatch one, PlayStation didn't disappoint with a stable of games this year. Of course, not every game is great, but it is hard to choose just five from a list of great games this year. These five PlayStation 5 games are sure to make the gamer in your life happy.
Marvel's Spiderman: Miles Morales
When Marvel's Spiderman: Miles Morales was announced, people were skeptical because it had big shoes to fill. The original Spiderman game for the PS4 was critically acclaimed and highly rated by players. This remastered version of the original lets you play as one of Marvel's most underrated characters. Staying true to the comics, this game ditches the original Spiderman for the similarly spider-enhanced Miles Morales.
You play as Miles as the teen comes into his own as the newest protector of New York while battling villains. The ray tracing and 60-frames-per-second capability of the PS5 take an already gorgeous game and make it absolutely beautiful. Perhaps the best part of this game is the time spent with Spider Cat – a kitty Miles rescues that adds some comic relief to the game.
Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart
Ratchet and Clank have been properties of Sony since the first game came out for the PlayStation 2 in 2002. This is probably why they chose it to be one of their showcase for PlayStation 5 games. Not only is it a PS5 exclusive, but it shows off the console's power in every way. It includes the colorful maps and the almost non-existent load times. The series has always been a fun arcade adventure game that has grown with each platform. Rift Apart continues that trend with a new game for a new era of gamers.
This newest entry into the Ratchet and Clank franchise has evolved with gaming to have an immersive storyline that players will love. After all, games are the new movies. It is also the best looking of all the Ratchet and Clank games. However, with all of its upgrades, this game does not lose sight of its legacy. At the end of the day, it is a fun shoot 'em up with lots of over-the-top weapons. Rift Apart is rated E10+, making it an excellent game for the whole family to enjoy.
Hitman 3
You would think that the Hitman series would get old after a while since there is only really one goal in the game, but Hitman 3 – which is far from only the third Hitman game in the franchise – is one of the best yet. It builds on past games by using the same mechanics that players are comfortable with while creating challenging new puzzles that force players to use their skills in new ways
The freedom given to players to explore environments and interact with NPCs makes for immersive gameplay. Though the objective is always to stealthily get to your objective and dispatch them, several weapons and strategy options make this game next-level fun and chock-full of replay value.
Demon's Souls
Demon's Souls originally debuted in 2009, which would make it a highly suspicious pick for best game of 2021 if it wasn't for the game being rereleased with upgrades to show off the PS5's impressive power. Although the game is over ten years old, it may be one of the best PlayStation 5 games right now. Additionally, it has the critic's scores to back it up. While the story is the same, the port to PS5 gave developers a chance to reexamine the game, fix some problems with movement, and, of course, upgrade the graphics.
They also added new weapons, armor, and accessories to better strategize in this famously difficult game. Demon's Souls is only for the gamer's gamer, which is why it was a much-hyped PS5 release title.
Battlefield 2042
Battlefield 2042 has gotten off to a rocky start, which will probably have some questioning why this is one of the best games of the year. The truth is it's not yet, but it will be. They have constant patches fixing the bugs that are the biggest complaints from players. They also need to work on a few game mechanics that make the game clunkier than other shooters.
Their new guns are more modern, which is a feature that players often ask for from these franchises. Even with less than stellar reviews right now, Battlefield 2042 has a ton of players. Indeed, they aren't likely to give up on the game anytime soon. This means that with some improvements, Battlefield could easily take the spot of the most played game of 2021.
The Best PlayStation 5 Games Available
The best game of the year is highly subjective because everyone likes something different. However, these are some of the most popular and highly-rated games that came out for the PS5 in 2021. Most of the gamers in your life would be happy to get any of these games as gifts, and video games are a gift that keeps on giving because the games on this list take a long time to beat and have nearly infinite replay value. Now is the time of year that games start to fly off the shelves as last-minute stocking stuffers, so make sure to get yours before it's too late.
